Ski Haikus
(Almost Haikus?)
I am not a poet. Also, I’m pretty sure that purists will say that these aren’t Haikus based on the strictest definition but they follow the 5-7-5 structure so I hope you enjoy these short Haiku-like poems about skiing.
First, a few about ski lifts and lift operators
Please thank your liftie Waves you out to safely load And bumping your chair Bump each chair… gently Look up the line! Skiers aboard! Beware the hanger Wait your turn… slide out Poles in hand, here comes a chair! Sit down, grab the bar
One for the snowmakers
Does snow make itself? Water and air under pressure Plus a low wet bulb
A reminder to keep your skis tuned
Learn to use a file The trail is steep and icy You need sharp edges Fresh wax… sharp edges Icy trails, death cookies, crud Your ass will thank you
And of course my tributes to rock skis
All skis are rock skis I have heard said many times Do not fear the rocks! Those skis look real old My new ones need protecting From the stones ad twigs Old but not too old File, wax, P tex… and great love Be bold! Ski! Ski! Ski! Old yellow XScreams Still make my heart rate speed up In autumn and in spring
Thanks for reading
I hope these are at least a little bit amusing to somebody

I’m not sure if the world needed more poems about skis, ski lifts or skiing but here it is
